How to Get Organized in 2021

Happy New Year to all!  Throughout this craziness, it feels good to have a sense of hope for a new beginning.  I think it’s safe to say that we all need a fresh start.  So let’s start with things that you can control, like getting organized!  For those of you that set ‘getting organized’ as your 2021 resolution, this post is for you!

Let’s start by creating a list.

Are you feeling overwhelmed with the amount of things to go through, you don’t even know where to begin?  Create a to-do list! Having everything written out helps you see what’s MOST important so you can get started on a game plan.  I recommend typing out a list to make easy adjustments.

Create a plan of attack for the #1 on your list.

This way you won’t be overwhelmed and at a loss when finding a starting point.  Once the top priority is finished, you might surprise yourself with the forward momentum you’ve created.  Plan and you’ll be ‘ON-A-ROLL’ in no time!

Be ruthless when purging.

Try not to think twice about getting rid of your things.  Don’t use it?  Don’t like it?  It was a gift so I feel like I need to keep it?  Remember, be RUTHLESS!  Surround yourself with the things that bring you joy and that you use.  When surrounded by the things you love, you’ll end up loving your space!  Also, the less you have the easier it is to organize and maintain in the future.  Win-win!

Contain your items to create a SYSTEM.

If clutter continues to settle on open spaces, then designating a home for these items will help!  For example, if loose papers find their way onto every open counter space then a paper sized storage box could help.  If you don’t want to spend money, you can even use a shoe box.  Or head to your local dollar store to purchase very inexpensive organizing products.

Label.

Labeling gets the whole family involved with organizing.  The best part is, they don’t even realize it!  If you label the container, this increases the likelihood of the item coming back into its new home.

Maintain.

You did all this hard work, now spend just a few minutes a day devoted to maintaining your new organized systems.  Sort through the paper storage box, and file away or recycle.  Pick-up your clothes and put them in the laundry or put them away.  Create small habits that will make a huge difference so you can be more organized in 2021!
